Monday’s Woodies

Jane and I were up early and headed to Dana Point, CA for the October Wood event. We meet up with the group for breakfast and then drove up to the Laguna Cliffs Marriott Hotel and Spa for our annual get together at this beautiful venue overlooking the blue Pacific. The grounds were soaking wet as they had just turned off the sprinklers (recycled water) so it was a little muddy where we parked. We set up camp under some shade trees and proceeded to view the cars in attendance. Early attendance was light but by 10:00 AM 70 woodies were staged on the green lawn. The weather was just about perfect with light cloud cover and a nice breeze. Unique to the venue are the numerous vendors that show up for the show. Each years a variety of surf and non-surf vendors display their wares and are a welcome sight for the ladies. After viewing the cars we relaxed under the canopies and enjoyed a nice lunch. The show was over around 2:00 PM and we headed home up the I-5 dreaming of good time we had with our friends in Woodies. This ends the normal events for the year for the National Woody Club on the West Coast in our area. We will be attending the Malibu Christmas Parade for one last hurrah for 2015. It has been a wonderful and memorable year for woodies and we look forward to next year.

I will be bringing you updates on some woodies that my friends are building or redoing during the rest of the year. I still rate these events as the most relaxing and stress free activities that you can enjoy as an auto enthusiasts. I hope to own another one someday when my ship comes in. I can see it on the horizon.

Thought for the day — “Life is easier when your’e laughing!”

Stay Tooned!

Our early arrival allowed us to set up under the trees with an ocean view. We were also praying for USC!

It was a little muddy but not bad.Walt, Dave and Jim parked facing the Pacific.

Vendors surrounded the cars and allowed the ladies some shopping time. Important ya’ know!

Mike Martin’s old 46 was standing tall with a new owner and lots of cleaning and waxing. It is nice when someone takes possession and keeps the car in perfect condition.

Mike’s woody goes way back and has many over the road miles under its belt.

This gray-green shoebox was sitting low in the grass at October Wood in Dana Point. Nice ride!

Sometimes it takes a long time to finish a woody and the owners loose their skin. Notice the dog in the back seat.

This 40 woody was all decorated for Halloween and looked great.

A sedan turned into a woody was in attendance and was very nicely done.

This Ford Coyote engine was installed in a super clean engine bay in a 47 Ford Woody.

We all spent some time looking over the very nice British Racing Green 1937 Ford woody with meticulous woodwork by Chris Messano. I followed him up the I-5 for a short distance. Hood and fender gaps were perfect which is no small task on the 37 front ends.

My wonderful wife, Jane, loves this resort and is always willing to go with me. The Elephant Woody has a special place in our relationship.

The hotel has their own woody and has it on display in the front canopy area. Beautiful 1940 Woody fully restored with a SBC.
