The long awaited Neil Gates top for Bob-O’s roadster was completed and I rushed over to see the finished product. I pulled in the gated house and could see the shiny stainless and oak bows from the distance. This top looks fantastic without the top material. The detail of the stainless fasteners and polished oak bows really stood out against the black car. I know the Bop Top is popular but this is the top to have on a Deuce. When you look inside a traditional car this is the look you want. Great job Neil. The selection for the top material will be off white to match the interior. He is not sure who will do the top but he has several pictures of the style he wants. I don’t think it will be done by the Throttlers Picnic so it may go with the top irons and bows…casual style.
The weekend was full of car activities which I did not attend. The 4 cylinder drags and the Early V8 Club All Ford show both were held this weekend. Lou sent in some pictures of the drags and I will be sharing them with you this week. Fall weather is here and we are enjoying cooler temperatures but still facing the fire dangers of the Santa Ana winds.
Andre is coming along and we will have the engine out this week. I purchased a butane torch to use on the door lock cylinders. They are a tough task for me. I think it is my old age that is getting in the way.
Bob with his new top. He looks like a proud papa. Thanks, Neil.[singlepic=3188]
The 3 inch chop still leaves plenty of headroom for Bob. I do not fit in this car with the top on.[singlepic=3189]
Beautiful front hinge and mount. Neil hand bucked the rivets and they look great.[singlepic=3190]
The side irons are really polished and fit perfect. Absolutely no slop in the irons.[singlepic=3191]
Neil used a stainless shoulder Allen head bolt for details and smallness.[singlepic=3192]
Neil and Bob-O admiring the top installation. Time for lunch at the Cactus Patch[singlepic=3195]
Bob likes this top on the Ionia Speed Shop Special. This car was in the PRC this year. Over the top with details.[singlepic=3196]
Using the 34 rear window adds to the chopped top look. Bob will do the same.
Today’s top…Toppings real deal.[singlepic=3198]
Nice rear shot of the high school hot rod at the Long Beach Swap meet.[singlepic=3199]
Interior shot of real irons and bows. This look is the best for a traditional hot rod.
