There comes a time when you must set some priorities in life. This weekend was beautiful with temperatures in the 80’s. The wife decided we needed to re sod the side yard where the rabbit’s had their say in eating the grass. Now I can’t do sod but my wife is a trooper and we managed to complete the job in two days. We both are sore, so today I spent working on the gates to keep the rabbits out of the yard. I would have worked on the gates all day but ran out of sandpaper for the DA. I told her I was going to stop and work on the motor mounts and she thought that was a good idea. Whew!
The motor mounts I made need a plate welded to them to support the engine weight. I use a small plate that welds to the tubing and allows the motor to rest on the mount rather than the bolt. P&J and TCI both use this design and it works for me. I have the mounts all tacked together and hopefully I will have time to final weld them this week. I still have lots of “homework” to complete in the next two weeks so progress may be slow. Bob’O wants to go to the Kennedy Boys for lunch one day this week so I need to get some of the work done before I go.
The week promises to be a good one weather wise so,…
Here is Andre in the stock condition ready for the operation. All of the rusty bolts and nuts have been removed.[singlepic=3948]
I placed the motor mount in the vise and made a jig to weld the support plate to the tubing at a 45 degree angle.[singlepic=3949]
Here are the finished mounts in the chassis ready for final welding and bolts.[singlepic=3950]
Here is a close up of the mount support.[singlepic=3951]
I used the stock three holes in the frame to design the mounting points. Holes need to be 3/8 ” in diameter.[singlepic=3952]
You can see how the support plate is flat against the motor mount instead of the bolt.[singlepic=3953]
The steering box is next. I will remove this relic and install a Pewfab mount.[singlepic=3957] Here is a hiboy that showed up on the JJ today. Nice ride! [singlepic=3954]
Another basket case going together in WA. See the JJ.
Rumor has it that this beautiful phaeton actually was on the road this past weekend. The car belongs in my garage where it could be driven daily. One of the best IMHO!
