As we enter into the New Year, I began to think about what I really want to do in my hobby this year. We are blessed with so many events nationwide that I need to mark my calendar and make plans right now. Age has a no better on the desires I have and will make the effort to attend — within reason.
During our Tuesday luncheon we discussed going to the 50th NSRA Nationals in Louisville, KY. Our group are mostly in their late 70’s with some medical issues. We all agreed that would not stop us from going to the event. I quickly figured out the trip route and cost for a 10 day to and from Louisville.
The breakdown driving amounted to around $2500-$3000 per person or half that if we doubled up. My cost is predicted on cheap gas going across country (I-40). A bigger concern was the physical part of the driving a string axle across the country for 5,000 miles. I have done this distance as a young man but never as a mature person. I have friends my age that do it every year, so I’m thinking I might consider the journey.
I would also like to consider the NW Deuce Days event in Vancouver, BC. This event is in a very scenic place that Jane would enjoy with some side trips on the journey. The distance is closer but doesn’t have the same effect on my heart as going to an event we attended in 1970. I will make that decision soon.
My first big event is this month in Pomona. I have guest coming and have a plan to attend several open houses during the week. Pomona will be filled with Hot Rods and people I haven’t seen for a few months. I’m excited about attending the Grand National Roadster Show.
I hope to see many of my friends at the show or open houses.
